Contacting Professionals

For my last project i contacting a range of graphic designers and asked if i were able to use their work for my project and they would get fully credited obviously, below is the email which i sent to them

Below is the range of emails which i got back all of which are very positive, some of the replies needed even more replies as people were curious as to my project and i explained further for them.

All emails were replied too and i've sent the work which they have requested. I need to send my work to them and get some feedback which will help me better myself in the future.

Who i plan to email.

this is the list of designers that i got in touch with to ask if i can use their work, only a select few got back in touch with me and this is the brief overview of what they said...

Two Times Elliot
Choose and Email to get high res images

FACE  [rick bancho]
Said yes I can use his work

Marius Wathne
Pick and choose the ones I want then ask for high res images

Letitia Lehner
Agreed to let me use their work

Marisa Passos
Said I can use her work as long as she can use it in her cv

Atelier Martino&JaƱa
Said I can use their work no problem

Andreas Hidber
Pick the work I like and then ask for the high res images

However some of them required more information on what my project was about or if they could use it in their portfolio etc... and pretty much all of them wanted to see the end result when it was completed, out of respect i will stick to this as these designers have a great style of work and show the style which really interests me.

Reflection on the final boards

YCN Final Boards

Product, Range & Distribution Final Boards

Reflecting back i feel that the boards for the self guided brief was a lot stronger and in my favour cause they are all shown in the design of what i actually wanted to do. I felt that when i collaborated with steph the work was much more illustrated and thats not the style which i can work in cause i don't understand that area aswell

I feel that i was much more passionate about the boards for the second section of OUGD203 and this is reflected in the work and the quality of the boards

The Hi's and the Lo's

My favourite
my favourites tasks this year have been some which i did not expect to be at the start.
- creating my final video for OUGD202
- final magazine for OUGD203
- Type sessions with graham
- How the tutors became more laid back towards the end of the year and treat us like adults.

My Most Hated
- creating 150 logo designs for fred in OUGD201
- the whole of my OUGD201 outcomes actually for that matter
- i cant really call this hated but i found enterprise really hard cause i just couldn't get my head round all the numbers and digits which you had to remember.

Work i aim to achieve

These are some designers which i have previously posted to my context blog to show the work which i find influential to my progression on the course, i feel that their work would be something that i would want to look into further and maybe even contact over the summer period so i could get networking with them and also too see which style of work they like the best off mine.

Potential Career?

This was something that sparked a massive interest in what i want to do when i finish university, the way in which the style of this has been reflected on how the design process can effect them made me want to continue to make more and more.

These are some that once i started to create i found it harder to stop and before i knew it i had the 40 posters that i needed completed and ready to be printed.

Creating my own brief...

Creating my own brief for this last module proved rather difficult because i could not settle on what i wanted to get done for it, all i knew is that i wanted to go down the typography and layout side of things. This proved difficult and left me shorter on time than i wanted to be towards the end due to me fussing about the start.

At level 6 i will have to make much quicker decisions and be on top form so that im able to get the most out of my time on each project.

Getting my name out in the Public View...

Where are my potential clients/employers located?
For the time being my main clients and employers would be mostly located in the northeast and west, this would be due to the fact that this are the only areas which are in a decent area for me to travel too and to make the most of the whole scenario, Anything down south is rather hard for me to get too and this would create some problems when it comes to travelling and completing what we would be expected to get done!

Leeds and Middlesbrough would prove the best places for me to have business clients at the current time, this could also be more ranged if they were willing to communicate over email and skype as this would allow me to speak to them on a personal level but at the same time make sure that the work can still be produced to the standard that they would want.

What media do my potential clients/employers use?
As i would be looking into doing things such as editorial then i would be using a mac based for design, this would be the same style of design for there work as well, so they would use digital media and web design, however they would still use print based work which could really show off the skills which i have and this would then mirror the work which they produce and make them more keen to view my work

What do you need to communicate and how does it match what your clients/employer need?
I would look into the range of work which my employer/client would like to achieve and what they actually want to get done, this could range from any of the political, economic or social views that they have so that i get straight into there good books when they look at my work, i would want to look to give a fresh new look of work which really gives off that new designer feel however i would want to have a attitude and work ethic which would fit in with the people that work in the industry there and see how things work out

My work is very type based so this would be the style of work which i would focus on to then communicate with what they would be looking for on a professional basis, this could only lead to one thing... EMPLOYMENT
my work would mirror there work and this would then inspire me to create more of there style design with my own creative flare in there as well.

How would there location effect my delivery?
i would have to consider which style of delivery i would have to use to get the message across to them in the best possible light so that i can show of my style and make sure that i think that the best possible outcome for my work was shown in the best light to give me the best opportunity of receiving the design brief

Trying to make illustration look crisp

On this section of the brief when it comes to my layout skills, i really struggled with it due to the way in which i were able to get the most out of the illustration. Because nothing was created in the style which i like it to be (straight cut and clean) it was hard to line things up and make it look neat, crisp and creative.

Spread the word

You will be introduced to the basics of web design and web design software through a series of workshops. Based on these workshops propose/produce the structure and content of your own personal website. Keep it simple and make sure that your visual identity from Task 5 forms the basis of your online brand.

Ive had some workshops about the website design, and how i plan to go about building these up, these can be created though the use of scamps. which you can see below...

These will help create the basis of my website, to improve on this i could also, apply the design work from the branding which i have created, this will change the way that i look into things and how i want the overall aspect of my design to look in the end. It will also make sure that everything links together for a complete and unified final range.

I plan to create a varied style of work which will be placed onto a website which i think could strongly change the way that people see my layout skills. Some websites which i find highly interesting are placed below...

Two Times Elliot - http://www.2xelliott.co.uk/
Atelier Martino&Jana - http://www.ateliermartinojana.com/
BlackNegative - http://www.blacknegative.com/
Typographicposters - http://www.typographicposters.com/

These websites are just a start of some of the aspects that i think are really innovative and make them interactive which holds the viewers attention for longer. I will look into these and maybe include some within my work.

Below is a link to other website design tips that we got from lorraine, these will play a part in the style of work which i will create, these tips will come in highly useful.

Contacting Creative Professionals

These were the sessions where we had to contact professionals, even it was just to start networking and getting ourselves out there, this was no easy job cause i hate calling my friends never mind the studios and other types of important phone calls

There were 5 companies that are located in Middlesborough and i emailed these to get conversation rolling so when i'm back home over the summer i might be able to get a studio visit, if not then its always great to get networking with other professionals going

Before i went onto the phone i wrote down how the conversation would go just incase i choked or forgot something that was important for me to say

Hello, my names marty, and im a creative at leeds college of art, im currently in my second year and was just wondering if i would be able to get the creative directors name and email address?

Thank you very much, basically im calling to start to get in touch with creative agencies so i can start to network, would it be ok if i was to send you some of my work and you could then give me a little feedback on it and tell me what you think

There were also a range of people who i found around the internet who i have emailed to see if i would be able to use there work in my current project, so far i have had only one email back but it was highly positive...
