End of Module Evaluation.

Module Code:             OUGD102
Module Title:             Design Principles

Name:                     Marty Edwards
Blog Address:      http://m-edwards1013.blogspot.com/

What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

I have learnt many new skills some of which being, Moving Image, Book making and Photo shop. These skills will come in very handy in the future but i have even put them into practice now as i have used the moving image tutorial already with the program Final Cut Express. This was the final outcome response to Collection 100 and i think that by doing this i have used the new skills which i have learnt and i also spent extra time outside of college hours to learn how to use the program as much as i did.

What approaches and methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have used information graphics which makes your research become alot more clear when simply looking at it. The way in which it can deliver the research in a more clear and understanding way just adds to work load and also makes your work easier on the eye.

I also used the quantitative and qualitative research methods which helped to categorize my findings and add these together to full understand the brief and give the best possible response.

What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalize on these?

I believe i have achieved more work this time around when it comes down to what i needed to do for my final product, i researched into the different styles of CD packaging and also into the way that the movies can be placed together, by the end of the project i am struggling on what to look and develop further as i believe i have peeked this idea and without further feedback im struggling to do more.

I have had feedback from members of the group and they think that my new improved video answered the feed back from last time and makes it more understandable and creates a much more interesting watch, holding there interest for longer.

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

As i am aware there are always more work you can add to a project which can then lead into more and more work, however without guidance further on where to take this project next i am baffled as of what to look into. However i think with a slight group crit with the group again there could be room for improvements.

Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1 - Improve Attendance. My attendance has dropped over the past module, however i did have some medical problems which i have now started to get resolved, this has effected my work load and increased the pressure on myself which i can only blame myself for. Next Module there will be a dramatic improvement.

2 - Solid Rate of Work. I achieved more work towards the end of the project than at the start, this is due to the project being rather confusing when i first started it and i didn't really have a clear idea, however i think that by focusing more and putting more hours in at the start i can create a much easier style of working towards the end.

3 - Book for Print. The printing dungeon is a nightmare to try and get in the drop ins for so i will have to learn to book places in advance for when i need to do so as i have left things till last minute again and struggling to be able to get the work load complete on time at the best standard it can be.

4 - Take more care of my pens. I am sick of losing my fine liners all the time so i need to look after the pens i buy more. maybe that's the reason for my dwindling funds.

5 - Invest in a Bag. I need some sort of carrying device so i can get all my pens and other art equipment to and from uni, this leaves me constantly having to ask around for things and buy new ones all the time for simple lack of laziness of not buying a bag. (there aint many nice ones to be fair). Ill have to get one sorted over the Easter break so i have one for the final part of the year and ready for second year.

Rate yourself on the following areas:

Attendance                               2
Punctuality                                3
Motivation                                 4
Quantity of work                       3.5
Quality of work                         4
Contribution to the group        5

Collection 100 Final Crit.

Issues Raised.

Jo.

The begging starts really well however the end doesnt hold the pace which the start does, it becomes to skitty and jumpy and then starts to become confusing. To solve this you should make the end more exciting and make it more thorough.

Amber.

Very nice concept which is strong but the same as Jo said. The end becomes to confusing and loses track of why you are trying to achieve this. Adjust the end of the movie to something more appropriate and continue the pace throughout and this will be successful.

Also look into packaging and how you could distribute them to which companies and why they would want them. This then meets all angles of the brief.
